Minutes of the November 19th meeting were approved with a noted correction.

Committee Reports: Member ship first quarter seven members did not renew, second quarter notices have been sent.

Publicity Committee Lois Calame will continue submitting notices of Friends activities.

Lori Stayer reports that the gathering of recipes is an ongoing process.
Old Business: The tax forms have been sent to IRS by the Merrick Library. To alleviate the problem of newly donated children’s books Carla Jaszczerski will continue to post of Craig’s List.

New Business: On Sunday, December 13, 2009 Friends membership forms will be available at the Merrick Library prior to the scheduled program. Carla Jaszczerski and Marion Ormsted will be the Friends presence.

Several ideas to increase both Friends membership and presence at the library were discussed. These included using the list of library patrons, having targeted programs for singles and seniors and programs for children. Among the possible programs might be ping pong and a library scavenger hunt.

Maureen Garvey made a motion to adjourn which was approved. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted

David R. Stayer, LCSW

Sad News

We regret to inform you that a great Friend of the Merrick Library, Clare Hendler, has passed away. Clare created the wonderful baskets that the Friends have been raffling off, and had thought she would be joining us for meetings very soon. Sadly, that is not the case. The wake is being held at the Massapequa Funeral Home, today, Tuesday, Nov. 17th, and tomorrow, from 2-4 and 7-9.

Coffeehouse

The Friends Coffeehouse and Poetry Reading was a great success! Coffee was sipped, jazz enjoyed, a basket winner was drawn and many books were sold. Not only did those who came hear from several poets, but they were treated to two musical performances as well. The food was excellent, the company better!
