October 2014 Minutes

Minutes for the meeting of the Friends of the Merrick Library Wednesday, October 22, 2014 Karen Tusa opened the meeting at 10:57 AM. Present: Karen A. Tusa, Diane Christie (acting treasurer), David R. Stayer (acting secretary), Marion Ormsten (acting correspondence chair), Angela Capone (Merrick Library Representative)), Shirley Sherwin, Blossom Miller and Sandra Mintz. The minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Diane gave the report of the treasurer. Savings account $3,191.29 and the checking account $298.58. Membership brought in $185.00, raffle $47.00 and the tote bags brought in $14.00.Diane moved and David seconded approval of the report of the treasurer. Motion passed. Karen Tusa gave the nominating committee report. Karen A. Tusa President, Howard Schwartz Vice President, Diane Christie Treasurer and David R. Stayer secretary. The report of the nominating committee was accepted. The slate was elected. Marion Ormsten was appointed Correspondence Chair and by phone Joan Sculli was appointed Publicity Chair. Karen reported that because of other obligations that Carol Fontana has resigned from the Friends. We thank Carol for her major contribution for the past several years. Karen also reported that she received Carol’s notes from her contact with Christa from the Farmingdale Library. They have held several fundraisers including Minigolf. We have decided to hold a craft fair on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Merrick Library from One to four in the afternoon. The Friends will investigate selling flash drives to be used by Merrick Library patrons who download from the Library computers. Because of conflict with one of our newly elected officers the Friends meetings will be changed to Tuesdays at 4:30 PM. The next two meetings will be Tuesday, November 18, 2014 and Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 4:30 PM at the Merrick Library. Diane will go to the bank to update our officers. Karen will coordinate our membership list. Karen will appoint chairs of necessary committees. The meeting was adjourned at 11:47 AM. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 4:30 PM.
