MINUTES FOR THE MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF THE MERRICK LIBRARY THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2014 The meeting was opened by Carol Fontana at 4:40 pm. Present: Carol Fontana (Vice President), David R. Stayer ((Secretary), Marion Ormsten (Correspondence Chair), Joan Sculli and Shirley Sherwin. The secretary apologized for not having minutes from the April 24, 2014 meeting, but Lori was gravely ill and died five days later. Report of the treasurer: Diane gave the following figures. Savings Account $4,044.54 and checking account $221.28. David moved and Shirley seconded approval of the report. The motion passed. After some discussion Joan and Shirley moved and seconded that as Wednesday, May 28, 2014 that a full bag be sold for $2.50. As of Wednesday, June 4, 2014 a full bag of books will be $1.00 if you bring your own and $2.00 if you purchase one of the Friends bags. This is being done because as of the end of June 2014, the book sale will no longer occur. We will have a meeting on Thursday, June 19, 2014 which the Merrick Library Director will attend and be part of the agenda. This meeting will determine the future of the Friends of the Merrick Library as a viable organization. We need to ascertain ways of attracting more members who will be active in helping us raise money to support our Merrick Library. Please allow me to state something from a personal position. My beautiful wife Loraine (Lori) was vehement about doing activities for the Merrick Library. It would be a disaster if the Friends of the Merrick Library stopped functioning. Less than one week before she died Lori conducted a meeting of the Friends hoping that the future will be bright for the Friends and Merrick Library working together. I will continue to be active to the best of my ability. Please attend the June 19, 2014 at 4:30 pm to continue the Friends and Lori’s legacy. The meeting was adjourned at 5:48 PM. David R.
