June minutes

MINUTES OF THE FRIENDS OF THE MERRICK LIBRARY
THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 2010

Lori Stayer called the meeting to order at 4:38 p.m.

Present: Lori Stayer, President; Karen Tusa, Vice President; David Stayer, Secretary; Maureen Garvey, Library liaison; Lois Calame, Publicity Chair; Felizia Bushkin, Marion Ormsten and Carla Jaszczerski.

The Minutes of the May meeting were read by the Book Sense, and accepted as read.

Karen Tusa presented the Treasurer’s report in the absence of our Treasurer:
Savings: $5093.95
Checking: 200.14
The Treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

Old Business

The Friends are requesting brighter bulbs or a lamp in the parlor. Maureen Garvey stated that lamps had been in the initial plans, and said the library will consider our request.

The Book Weeding has been successful. Because both Karen and Lori are unable to be present the first Monday, the July book weeding has been rescheduled for the 12 of July.

Our last Wednesday book sale netted $48.00.

Lois Calame will ask her son to help with the art for the cook book.

Committee Reports: No additional nominations were received from the membership. The committee recommended the slate of Lori Stayer for President, Karen Tusa for Vice President, Shirley Sherwin for Treasurer, and David Stayer for Secretary. The nominating committee report was accepted.

Maureen Garvey read the text of the 1/8 page ad for the Friends in the coming issue of Access. Karen Tusa read the membership renewal letter scheduled to be mailed this summer. The letter was approved as amended. Lori requested flyers for the membership to post in community bulletin boards advertising the book sale.

New Business

Karen asked that the Friends minutes be posted prominently in the Library. Discussion of a Friends’ raffle was tabled until September. Possible amendment to the Friends Bylaws to add a Corresponding Secretary was rejected. The decision was made that the president appoint a correspondence chair. A committee consisting of David Stayer and Maureen Garvey was established to review the Bylaws.

Election

The slate as recommended by the nominating committee was unanimously elected with the secretary casting one vote. President, Lori Stayer; Vice President, Karen Tusa; Treasurer, Shirley Sherwin, and Secretary David Stayer. The President appointed Lois Calame as Publicity Chair, Marion Ormsten as Correspondence Chair and Carla Jaszczerski as Information Technologist.

Discussion ensued regarding conduct of volunteers at the Wing book sales. It was decided to implement a written policy regarding professional comportment for volunteers. The Friends are invited to contribute to this policy.

The next meeting of the Friends is Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
David R. Stayer, LCSW
